Denmark: Emmelie De Forest, Only Teardrops

Firstly, her name sounds like gateaux. Now I want some gateaux.

Secondly, I don't want Denmark to win. Copenhagen and Malmo are too close together, so close that I'll be staying in the former for Eurovision. I want somewhere else to win.

So, while I like this song, and think it does manage to get the right balance on being twee and celtic, and doesn't have superfluous dancers, I'm prejudiced against Denmark. They're always one of those sure things for the final. It's so boring.

(All these Celtic influences in other people's finals. Will anything rub off on Ireland this year? Or will they just grab some swedish songwriter again, to sing #Generic pop song 44? Sigh)

Malmo or Copenhagen

http://www.eurovision.tv/page/news?id=malmoe_to_host_eurovision_2013

It's so nice of Sweden to chose a host city that gives us two city options to stay in. It also means that "Är Öresundsbron den längsta i Europa?" may not be the most useless question I've ever learnt!

Eurovision: 1912

The other day I had a conversation about how many countries are in the Eurovision, and how it'd be a lot less if it were 1912:

Following last years victory by Mr. Eldar and Mrs Nigar, this years contest will be held in the capital of the Russian Empire, St Petersburg. They will be represented by the young singer Mr Donald Montell.

Making it's debut in Eurovision this year is the Kingdom of Serbia, represented by Zeljko Joksimovic, singing a ballad about peace in Europe in these troubled times.

Great Britain and Ireland will be represented by brothers John and Edward Grimes, from Dublin, who have been warned not to use the event as a platform to voice Ireland's campaign for independence. Many are unsure if they have the popularity to ensure victory.

The Ottoman Empire has withdrawn from the competition this year, owing to trouble in the region, Bulgaria and Romania have opted not to compete.

Greece has just about managed to compete after economic troubles and political tensions in the region.

Sweden will be represented by Swedish-Finnish singer Miss Pernilla Karlsson with her ballad Nar Jag Blundar, while Denmark will be represented by Icelanders Greta and Jonsi, who have been warned not to use the event as a platform to voice Iceland's campaign for independence.

San Marino's Miss Monetta is singing a song about typewriters.

Yep, I really need to get out more.

Overflow -- the very reason we need second chance rounds

Since I've stated my indifference to Denmark's entry I'd like to point to my favourite from the night, Ditte Marie's Overflow, some fabulous glam pop, which would be perfect but for one thing: TROUSERS! Get some TROUSERS! Or a skirt!

Are you sure, oh mighty people of Denmark, that you wouldn't have preferred this song? Are you really sure? :(

I'm so in love with this. My love is in, like, overflow for this. :D Booo, Denmark, boooo!

Denmark National Final

Dear Broadcasters. When you know a lot of obsessives from across the world are going to be watching your internet live feed, could you try and make it work properly. Please! I gather I was not the only one who couldn't make much of most of last nights Danish entries because the video kept jumping constantly.

The song that won in the end was Soluna Samay's Should Have Known Better

Does anyone else hear Seal's Crazy in the chorus or is that just me? Barely 30 seconds into a song, and I'm thinking of something else. I'm also thinking, what is that outfit? Is she planning on invading Europe after the contest? I can't decide if that outfit makes me think more of Cheryl Cole or Colonel Gadaffi. I don't really want to thin of either.

This song leaves no impression on me at all, and it kinda bores me. So it's probably going to be a winner. Sigh.

Finalist: Yeah. She's young, she's pretty, she's singing in English about love, it's inoffensive, easy-going. Still, at least I know what I can go to the toilet during on the 26 May.
